Mariana Trench
March 26 @ 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm
The Mariana Trench is a trench in the Pacific Ocean that is the deepest part of the ocean, deeper than the height of Mount Everest! It is an environment with huge amounts of pressure that humans cannot survive—but some other organisms can. How is it that the Mariana Trench contains many diverse life forms, and how did we channel our knowledge of engineering to survive in this inhospitable environment as well? Come enjoy a discussion-based seminar and a fun hands-on experiment in the Technology Lab on the 2nd floor, observing the Mariana Trench through the lens of biology, ecology, and engineering. Kids and tweens ages 8-13 are welcome!
